Summary:
Soft and Light
• Playing soft encourages you to avoid constraint, stiffness of the arms and wrists and hardness of touch.
Accent
• Less accents will result in greater speed.
Tension and Relaxation
• Relaxation = freedom = speed
• Every note has an opportunity for relaxation
Economy of Movement
• Eliminate unnecessary movements
• Minimize necessary movements (avoid overly large movements)
Chunks and Bursts
• Break down rapid passages into small chunks
• Practice in fast bursts
• Use the four burst rhythms
